The editor of WorldView magazine is a part-time consultant position. The editor is responsible for building active Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) engagement through the timely and successful production of our quarterly magazine with features and news of the Peace Corps community. In coordination with the production of a digital version of WorldView, the editor is expected to provide a powerful printed voice defining the mission of the National Peace Corps Association.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Consult with NPCA staff and other stakeholders to develop communications strategies, providing expertise on print media

• Lead and manage all aspects of production of NPCA’s quarterly 48-page print magazine

• Determine appropriate and varied editorial materials 

• Maintain constructive email dialogue with a broad array of RPCVs and experts 

• Research relevant topics, identify and assign writers for all departments and features

• Edit in a consultative manner with authors of all materials for the issue

• Research and identify appropriate high-resolution photography and information graphics required to support many of the articles

• Provide all edited texts, all related materials, and advertisements in a recommended page-by-page guide for use by the art director

• Coordinate and execute all proofing of pages with volunteer editors

• Coordinate with NPCA staff all information to be delivered to the printer for distribution of the issue

• Advise NPCA leaders and staff on issues of advertising, circulation, and other matters affecting the success of the print and digital magazine 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Extensive work experience in writing and editing in a non-academic environment

• Significant career experience in the developing world as a Peace Corps Volunteer, Peace Corps staff, or for the federal government, an international development agency or a non-profit organization

• Post-graduate degree in reporting, writing, publishing, public relations, foreign affairs, international development, or a related academic discipline

• Commitment to the values of the international experience of the Peace Corps

• Patience, sensitivity, and diplomacy in working with volunteers in a diverse culture

• Ability to manage time and tasks to meet rigid production and distribution deadlines, and to adjust to last-minute changes

• Respect for the imagined audience in order to make countless decisions that will impact readership and determine reader support

• Well organized to handle multiple tasks

• Responsive, attentive to detail and an articulate communicator 

• Highly motivated, resourceful, and creative, thriving on the opportunity to contribute to the Peace Corps community
