Increase Peace Corps' Budget

Since March 1, 1961  more than 220,000 volunteers have served in 140 different countries. In an ever-changing world, Peace Corps Volunteers have met new challenges with innovation, creativity, determination, and compassion while helping people build better lives for themselves. The dedication and work of Volunteers demonstrate the legacy of service true to the Peace Corps.

  • Follow these links for some fast facts about the Peace Corps.
  • Current (FY 2016) funding for the Peace Corps is $410 million.  This marks the highest dollar level of Peace Corps funding in its history, following a major victory at the end of 2015.
  • The President’s FY 2017 request of $410 million would mark level funding for the agency. Follow this link for the Peace Corps budget justification to Congress.

However, with many countries continuing to request additional Volunteers or new Peace Corps programs, coupled with the fact that thousands of qualified Peace Corps applicants were turned away from service in the past year because of limited assignments, we are supporting a $450 million funding level to continue providing more opportunities to serve and continue improvements to Peace Corps programming and support.
