Katherine Patterson - Save the Rain for Bumbuta Secondary School, Tanzania

Fully Funded

This Project is fully Funded! Thank you for your donations! Please check back for project updates and for a full report once the project is complete.

Donations designated for Save the Rain for Bumbuta Secondary School will be used to build a rainwater harvesting system/hand washing stations for Bumbuta Secondary School located in the Dodoma Region, Kondoa District, Bumbuta village to increase access to clean water within the school community.

Currently, there is no water source at the Secondary School for hand washing, bathrooms, cooking or the proposed school garden. The students carry large containers of water to school everyday creating hardship. The goal is to increase access to clean water within the school community, including People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and increase good hygiene or Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) practices. This project will implement a rainwater catchment system at Bumbuta Secondary in order to collect and store rainwater throughout the year and hand washing stations. The short-term outcome of the project is that knowledge and skills related to rainwater catchment systems will increase in the community. The long-term outcome is that students and staff at Bumbuta Secondary will gain much needed access to clean water. This will enable students to live healthier and save time and energy.

Katherine and her host community in Tanzania were awarded a VAST grant during her service, but upon Katherine being evacuated the grant was dissolved. Katherine currently lives in Washington D.C.

NPCA invests 85 percent of the total donations directly to support this project and 15 percent where needed most to support service administration and our overall mission.
